Tools

Technology Matrix Tool (TMT)

The Technology Matrix Tool provides information on present and future values of costs and performance indicators for a wide range of technologies in Europe, across energy production, transport, buildings and industry. It allows the use to visualise and compare technological data and projections from the present day to 2050 and beyond. Future projections are collected from integrated assessment modelling scenarios, learning curve projections and expert elicitations. The uncertainty surrounding projections are also provided.

Decarbonisation Policy Evaluation Tool (DPET)

The DPET synthesises the state of knowledge about the impact of different policies used to accelerate low-carbon energy transitions, using on a set of seven performance indicators. The DPET is based on systematic literature reviews of the peer-reviewed literature on the impact of ten types of policy instruments. It presents the extent to which each study concludes that there is a positive, negative, or no impact on each indicator, and the extent to which there is consensus. It also presents, for each study examined, the research methods used, time period and location under study, key design elements for each policy, and key contextual factors.

Energy System Decarbonisation Simulator (ESDS)

The Energy System Decarbonisation Simulator provides users with a fully transparent, user-friendly and interactive modelling tool to quantify and examine energy system developments, associated CO2 emissions, costs and investment – and their trade-offs – under a range of user-selected parameters. The Simulator provides a high level of detail in terms of countries, technologies and policies, and provides projections to 2070. The user can interact with the tool by providing input for a variety of model parameters, including technology costs, potentials, policy drivers and other assumptions.

Further information on the technical background to the tool may be found here.

Low Carbon Pathways Platform (LCPP)

The Low Carbon Pathways Platform provides an accessible way for stakeholders to access and examine the decarbonisation pathways developed by the INNOPATHS project to stakeholders. These energy-economy scenarios are based on core narratives of future developments co-developed with stakeholders, and then translated into quantitative scenarios by three state-of-the-art energy-economy models. These scenarios consist of detailed sectoral and regional data on energy quantities, technology deployments, fuel and investment costs as well as emissions in the different transformation pathways.
